Master your attention, understand your wants and conquer your desires. You control your choices by controlling your attention, with that control you can make your life one of your choosing instead of drifting away with the latest current.
What you want is not always the same, as what you need, wants can overtake needs but needs are the only things we truly can't live without. When you whittle down your list of wants you might find that most of them a frivolous or unnecessary, you may even find your wants are superficial to the core. The things you want or want to happen are what you steer your life towards, what you want is where you will likely focus your attention.

So how do you control your attention? Perhaps you would have to try to understand your wants and what pleasures they serve to you in your life. Sometimes we are often so busy wanting, that we end up not ever truly enjoying the blessings we already have right in front of us to hold as dear treasure.
Our world is full of distractions, they come mostly in the disguise of "having a life" Chances are there is something that started as a one time deal that has now become a permanent habit in your life. Human being are such creatures of habits, we tend to become repetitive, obsessed even with the the most damaging behavior. We do things knowing that we will destroy ourselves before the end, yet we can't seem to help it we have to keep going.
