Anyone observing a baby or younger child can probably come to the conclusion that People are not born with Egos. Babies desire eating, drinking, warmth, comfort, they demand immediate gratification, they are ruled by pleasure, they demand satisfaction regardless of the consequences, they want it and they want it right now! These most primitive urges Freud called the "Id".
Babies can get away with anything, they don't know how the world works, that is where our parents come in. Parents have to become ambassadors between their children's Id and what is reality; helping them to understand that satisfaction cannot always be achieved under the immediate circumstances. Once a child begins to understand how the world works, his self development begins, in other words the child begins to develop an ego.
With the formation of the ego, the individual becomes a self, instead of an amalgamation of urges and needs that are specific to babies. The
ego allows the child to function accord to the realities of the society in which they live while still accomplishing the original goals of their Id. Example: To get a piece of candy, the child will learn to ask Mommy or Daddy instead of grabbing it off the shelf and gobbling it up. The Ego will plan and scheme to get what the Id really wants.
So basically Ego, is a natural development in the psyche, there is nothing wrong with having an ego. You simply have to understand that your ego is meant to serve your base desires. If you are aware of that which you desire you can learn to control your Ego.
Superego is the morals of the society in which you live, what people collectively judge to be right and wrong. If the morals of the people in your society are fallible then your sense of right and wrong could be completely off. If you live among gangsters then they will tell you that violence is a great way of life, you will grow up believing in it, just like everyone else around you. People who go against the Superego are usually outcast in their own societies.
