The 99% are finally starting to speak up and what do I see in the news? All but outright ridicule of people who are trying to make a change. If the majority was truly ruling this nation then the voices of the people "Occupying" the streets of this country would be heard and treated with more respect. We don't see real coverage of why they are protesting, just how many got arrested and which celebrity has joined the effort. The movement has gained no legitimacy in the eyes of the news reports don't give the protesters enough coverage about their plights.
Instead, they are told to get a job, when there are none, they are compared to animals when they are reduced to such by the very people who are now judging them. The rich have spent years hurdling this economy to the brink of destruction but they did it all in the name of profits so that can't be bad right? When the Banks, Mortgage Companies and Wall St screwed up, they got bailed out because we were told that they were just too big to fail. Who was responsible for the health of the economy of this country I ask you? The wealthy people who actually hold majority of the income, or the 99% who bailed them out?
They are worried about falling markets in Europe and what it will do to their portfolios and retirements funds while the 99% are wondering how they will make it through the next week. How will they pay for food, clothes and shelter for self and family. What does the future look like in a quasi stagnant economy.
Where is the American Dream headed when college graduates have no jobs to get after going into debt for their very expensive American education?
Where will the troops who come home find work? What additional strains will their return cause on the economy. I wonder how good they feel about fighting an unjustified war and then coming home to a sick economy that can offer them no source of livelihood?.
American Health Care System is full of problems despite the country's position on top of the world.
American spending is completely out of control and the factions in congress are fighting to the end rather than compromise to fix the situation.
Change comes slow but it needs to start somewhere and taking it to the streets is just the beginning. The 99% have to start somewhere, their voices need to be heard and respected, the majority should actually rule, for what is Democracy if not the rule of the majority?
